Burma’s Vice President Nyan Tun visited Maungdaw to deliver aid and money to Rakhines affected by the sectarian violence but not for Rohingyas.
According to officials, Nyan Tun arrived in a new settler village in Maungdaw south in three helicopters. Then they traveled to Kan Thar Yar. Rohingya villagers reportedly tried to meet the vice president to ask for much needed medicine, foods and tents but security didn’t allow them to see the vice president, according one person from Nyaung Chaung.
“Whenever high level Burmese officer have come (to Arakan State) they never meet with the Rohingya community, or deliver aid to them, since the June riots. Maungdaw politicians only show them the Rakhine Internal Displace Peoples (IDPs). They never say that there are Rohingya IDPs in Maungdaw."
The UNHCR has recently provided some aid to IDPs camps near Koe Tan Kauk but IDPs still need tents and warm clothes for winter season. Other Rohingya IDPs have received nothing in the form of aid since June.
