Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) fired live rounds into Bagona village on Dec.5 at about 9 pm. No-one was hurt but security officers arrested 5 people on allegations of participating in sectarian violence that broke out in Arakan State in June and October.
"Nasaka personnel open fired on villagers after they saw them return to the village," said Anwer, a relative of one the residents.
All the people arrested were released after a crowd from other villages gathered to help the distraught civilians. The security forces also tried to torch the fish market. But the fire was quickly extinguished by locals, according to an elder.
At the time of press Kaladanpress has been unable to confirm the information with officers from the Padin Nasaka outpost.
