Nasaka has exploiting the communal violence in June and October in Arakan State to extort money from Muslim communities. Many Rohingyas have been arrested by Burma’s border security force on trumped up charges but are unable to pay the expensive bribes for their release, according to locals.
Four were arrested at night in Udaung village on Nov.16. Nasaka personnel demanded 100,000 Kyat (US $117.44) each for their release. None of the people detained had the money to pay the bribe. Their still being held in the border security camp
Seven other Rohingya villagers were arrested and detained on Nov. 10. They were accused of holding Bangladeshi mobile sets and taking part in June sectarian violence. They were also offered to be released if they paid costly bribes but no-one had the money.
