Several politicians and high ranking army and police officers met yesterday in Maungdaw in Arakan State, according to a local official.
“Army officers whom included Minister of Border Affairs Lt Gen Thein Htay visited the government offices, border trade point, exit and entry gates and markets in Maungdaw. Col. Maung Maung Oo, director of Burma’s border security force, guided them around the city.”
Apparently, the district administration and township administration officers ordered market vendors to open their shops. Both Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims were told to tell the visiting officials they were living together peacefully, according to a shopkeeper who didn’t want his name used.
The police chief also met with Buddhist monks in the Myoma monastery for an afternoon discussion, according to an elder who didn’t want his name used.
“We don’t know what they discussed during the meeting.”
Home minister officers also reportedly met with Maungdaw village administration officers in Myoma Hall, Buthidaung for a meeting, according to one Rohingya politician.
