Maungdaw, Arakan State:  Two siblings were arrested by Nasaka (Burma’s border security force), on October 22, over allegations that they were involved in a human trafficking ring, according to a relative.

Jaffar (55) and his younger brother Mohamed Amin (25), from Kyauk Chaung village, in Maungdaw north were arrested at about 10 p.m. Their father’s name is Bawdi Rahman.

According to a village elder the charges are “false and fabricated” and another example of racial discrimination by Nasaka against the Muslim Rohingya community following the sectarian violence that hit Arakan State in June. Since then, villagers “have been confined in their villages”.

However, the two-men were released at around 5:00pm after paying a bribe, according to the unnamed relative.
