Maungdaw south, Arakan State: Nasaka (Burma’s border security force) shot and killed an elderly man, and arrested 10 people after the security force opened fire on a village.
According to an elder, who spoke to Kaladanpress on condition of anonymity, the Naska were enforcing the curfew, enacted after sectarian violence in June.
“A group of Nasaka personnel from Pa-Nyaung Pin Gyi (Daung Kharli) Nasaka camp, under area number 7, entered Naya para village, in Maungdaw south, at about 11:30 p.m., on October 20. At the time, three-youths were sitting on the road near the village. The young Rohingyas ran when they saw the approaching security force. The Nasaka started shooting at them. When the villagers heard the gunfire they also ran away from their homes. But, Abdul Hakim (62), son of Inna Amin, was hit by a bullet, which entered his home.”
After, the security forces, searched the homes to find the youth who ran away, and arrested 10 people for gathering during the curfew, according to a village leader.
According to the leader; Abdul Aziz, (25), son of U Abdul Hakim, Abdul Hamid (18), son of U Abdul Hakim, Mohammed Roshid, (15), son of U Abdul Hakim, Mohammed Rofique, (35), son of Abdul Amin; Roshid Ahmed,(30), son of U Esark, Eliyas (15), son of U Abu Taher, Noor Kobir, son of U Abu Taher, Noor Kamal, son of U Abu Taher, Aman Ullah (22), son of U Abdu Shukkur and Salim Ullah, son of U Fozol, were arrested.
The people arrested were initially detained in the Nasaka camp, then sent to Maungdaw Police Station. The security force took Abdul Hakim’s corpse from his house the next morning to their camp. After, it was sent to Maungdaw General Hospital.
According to a relative - at the time this story went to press - Abdul Hakim’s body has not yet been returned to his family for a proper burial.
