Chittagong, Bangladesh: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 270,000 Yaba pills and detained four persons, during a joint raid in the early morning in the Asadganj area, Chittagong, on May 18.
Yaba, which is a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, is highly addictive. Withdrawal symptoms include irritability, insomnia, confusion, tremors, convulsions, anxiety, paranoia, and aggressiveness.
RAB-7 Acting Commander Major Ziaul Ahsan Sarowar said the pills were hidden in sacks filled with plums being unloaded from a truck in front of the Asadganj Mosque.
The seized Yaba pills, with an estimated street value of Tk 90 million, are the largest Yaba drug bust in Bangladesh’s history.
The drugs were transported to Bangladesh from Burma on May 17.
Abdur Rashid, who is suspected as one of Bangladesh’s top drug dealers, was one of the four people detained by police.
The other three have been identified as Sabbir, Ataur and Ismail, according to RAB.
This recent bust coincides with another drug seizure of 20,000 Yaba tablets by BGB, discovered on a border crossing boat, on May 10.
