Kutupalong, Bangladesh: Locals living near an unofficial refurgee camp beat a female Rohingya refugee and destroyed her hut this afternoon, said a refugee leader from Kutupalong Unofficial Camp.
“The locals were cultivating paddy near the camp, which will be ripe soon. Chickens from Kutupalong camp are entering the paddy fields every day.”
“The owner of the paddy field scolded the refugees about the chickens. A female refugee asked not to be scolded further, saying that the refugees would keep their chickens in their huts more securely.”
However, the locals become angry with the female refugee, and they attacked her, destroying her hut completely. The female refugee became seriously wounded.”
“Nobody came forward to help the female refugee while the locals were attacking and destroying her hut,” said a religious leader from the camp.
“Even the camp security police personnel are not taking any action against the locals who were involved.”
