Teknaf, Bangladesh: Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel arrested a Burmese man on December 12. They seized illegal foreign liquor, polythene bags and a wooden boat that were in his possession, according to a coast guard official in Teknaf.
The man, Shafique, was 19 and hailed from Maungdaw in northern Arakan State.
Acting on a tip-off, a group of coast guard personnel from Zawlar Dip, not far from Dum Dum Meah, arrested the man They confiscated 82 bottles of wine, whiskey and beer, 120,000 pieces of polythene bags worth about 116,900 takas and a wooden boat worth about 50,000 takas, the official added.
Sub-Lieutenant Mohamed Delwar Hussain of the Teknaf Coast Guard station told the journalists, “It happened on that day and we handed the suspect over to the Teknaf police station. The coast guard has filed a case against Shafique.”
The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard are conducting operations on the Naff River on daily basis. They’ve seized a large variety of smuggled goods, , said a businessman from Teknaf.
