Teknaf, Bangladesh: The Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 63 thousand yaba tablets the morning of December 14, on the Naf River. The seizure took place while traffickers were smuggling the drugs into Bangladesh, according to coastguard sources,
Being tipped off, the Coast Guard was patrolling near Noyapara village. They were looking for a speedboat but didn’t see one.
Mohamed Taher Mustafa, the commanding officer of Shahpuri Gip Coast Guard Station led the operation. At 5:00am an informant passed the a tip that the drugs had been stashed and the smuggler returned to Burma. The Coast Guard found them attached to a plastic bag with a signal water ball.
Sub-Lieutenant Mohamed Delwar Hussain of the Teknaf Coast Guard station told the press, “This was the biggest Yaba consignment ever seized by the coast guard and we are processing the necessary papers to hand over this consignment to the Teknaf Police Station.”
Traffickers smuggle illicit items from Burma to Bangladesh every day. The concerned authorities are trying to stop drugs from entering Bangladesh but there are always those who will take the risks to make profits, said a local teacher from Teknaf.
