“The two border security forces discussed various issues during the cooperative meeting, such as smuggling across the border, border trade, narcotic drug smuggling, border surveying, and stolen iron barbed wires from the Burma-Bangladesh fence area. Members of the security forces also played friendly games of football and volleyball.”

“Ways to increase and maintain good relations between two countries” were also discussed, according to sources. Discussions also included the repatriation of 60 Burmese nationals who have finished their jail terms but are still detained in Cox’s Bazar jail in exchange for the release of Bangladeshi fishermen and woodcutters who have been detained in a Burmese jail.

Fourteen BGB battalion-level officers participated in the meeting, led by Chittagong Sector Commander Col. Mohamed Boshirul Islam. Seventeen Nasaka personnel attended the meeting, led by Maungdaw Administration Officer U Myint Aung Gyi.

The meeting was held at the Maungdaw exit/entry Nasaka camp. BGB officers arrived in Maungdaw at about 8:30 am and returned to Bangladesh at 3:00 pm.
