Huge medicines seized from Bangladesh-Burma border

Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized huge medicines in Bangladesh-Burma border on October 21, while being smuggled to Bangladesh from Burma, said BGB official.

“A group of BGB personnel from Rezu Amtoli BGB camp of Bandarban Hill Tract went to the Bangladesh-Burma border to check the Mounting passes between two countries while a group of smugglers from Burma with huge medicines were passing the Silon Bagan Mountin pass. Sensing the presence of BGB personnel, the smugglers ran away after leaving the medicine on the passageway.  Later, the BGB recovered the smuggling goods (medicines) on October 21 at about 4:00pm.”

The seized medicines are estimated worth Taka 340,520. No one was arrested by BGB members as they fled away from the scene because of senescing BGB’s presence, said Motiur Rahman, one of the BGB members from the BGB Battalion No. 17.

“This operation was led by Sofadar Mohamed Mozemal Haque of Rezu Amtoli BGB out- post camp under the order of Battalion Commander Lt Col Mohamed Khalekuz Zaman of BGB Battalion No.17 of Cox’s Bazar.”

“The BDB seized various type of medicines from the Silon Bagan Mountin pass.”

All the seizing goods were sent to the Cox’s Bazar BGB warehouse, said an aide close to BGB.

A group of smugglers brought these medicines from Burma to Bangladesh after getting understanding with local authorities by giving money to them, said a local from border area.

“The smuggling won’t be stopped, unless the local people and journalists cooperate with BGB personnel,” said BGB official.
