Teknaf, Bangladesh: Seven Bangladeshi prisoners were granted amnesty by the Burmese government and released from Buthidaung jail on October 15, 2011, said an elder from Maungdaw.

“Burma border security force (Nasaka) dropped the released prisoners in the Naf River bank of Bangladesh side by boat at 11:00 am on October 16 without giving official information to Bangladesh authority.”

On being tipped off, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) from out-post camp of Nayapara rushed to the spot and arrested the seven Bangladesh, BGB sources said.

“BGB handed over to Teknaf police station for further investigation.”

The seven Bangladeshi are; Abdu Rahaim (26), Sayed Karim (28), Mohamed Islam (33), Chang Tun Marma (26), Mobarak (27), Mohamed Rashel (29) and Sayed Alam (35), who hailed from different areas of Bangladesh.

Sayed Alam, the release prisoner said that they went to Bangladesh-Burma border to work while a group Nasaka personnel arrested them from border and imprisoned five to seven years.

“After their jail terms, we were released with amnesty which was recent grant in Burma and the Burmese authority dropped us at river bank of Naf without knowledge of Bangladesh authority.”

“Nearly 48 Bangladeshi have been languishing with various false allegations in Buthidaung jail of Arakan State, Burma.”

Shopon Kumar Mojandar, the police inspector from Teknaf confirmed that they will be sent in their distention place after being investigated.
