“More than 100 local people and police personnel came to the western and northern sides of the camp where the unregistered block D-3 and registered camp west side are. Most of the refugees were busy with their daily lives at that times.”

“The police personnel only waited behind the local people, and didn’t join while the locals attacked the refugees.”

“The local people first attacked the unregistered camp where the local destroyed some shacks. Some refugees were injured in the clash with the locals. They then moved to the registered camp’s school where the locals attacked the teacher of the school.”

While news of the attack by the locals spread in the camp, the refugees in the camp rushed to the spot. “We don’t know why these local people came and attacked us,” said a committee member from the camp.

“We found ten refugees were seriously injured, and others have minor injuries. The seriously injured refugees were admitted to the Kutupalong Camp Health Clinic.”

“The seriously injured refugees are: Rahamat Ullah, 20, unregistered; Nowbi Husson, 60, unregistered; Abdul Hamid, 53, unregistered; Mohamed Mosa, 22, registered, and Mustafa Kamal, 25, registered.”

“There are other refugees from the camp who were injured but can’t able to join the health center as the security personnel did not allow the refugee to go the MSF health clinic.”

The Ukiya Township authorities came to the camp with security personnel to investigate the incident, and why the locals attacked the refugees, said a local from Kutupalong.

“The security personnel arrested five refugees with an allegation of clash,” said a source.

“If the authorities aren’t able to restore the security and law around the camp and surrounding area, the situation of the camp will become worse in the future.”
