Refugees celebrate World Refugee Day in Bangladesh

Teknaf, Bangladesh: Refugees from official camps in Bangladesh celebrated World Refugee Day on June 20 in their camps, said a refugee committee member from the camp.

The event was organized by Research, Training and Management (RTM) International, Technical Assistant Integration (TAI), and Hunger for Action (ACF). The program was also supported by the UNHCR and the government of Bangladesh.

Representatives of the organizations were welcomed by young refugee girls and a scout group.

During the event, the assistant officer of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commission (RRRC), Cox's Bazaar, was a chief guest, and was welcomed by Camp-in-Charge (CIC), Saiful Islam Mujumder.

In the opening speech, the CIC said that the UNHCR and “other NGOs will cooperate with refugees for future development.” He asked the refugees to stay in the camp peacefully and to develop themselves.

“I am 1 who care” is this year slogan, said the CIC.

“The refugees must send their children to the school for their future,” said the RTM International program officer.

At the event, the refugees presented a cultural program with drama, dance, and songs. The officers gave gifts to the refugee children for their talent in education and sports.

Similarly, a Rohingya political organization, the National Democratic Party for Human Rights (NDPHR), exile, released a statement on World Refugee Day. The organization reminded the world of facts about the situation of Rohingya refugees in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Thailand.
