Teknaf, Bangladesh: Six Rohingya were forced back to Burma by the Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) from Lamber Bill border point of Teknaf on April 11 at about 4:30 pm, said a source close to the BGB at the border area.
On that day, at about 2:00 pm, the group was arrested at Whaikong check-post by BGB personnel while they were traveling in a special minibus bound for Cox’s Bazaar.
Lt. Col. Zahid Hassan, the 42 BGB Battalion Commander of Teknaf, confirmed that the arrested included one woman and five men.
Every day, Rohingya cross the Burma-Bangladesh border legally or illegally in order to enter Bangladesh for medical treatment, business purposes, to contact relatives, to work in Bangladesh, or to visit their relatives at refugee camps, said a Rohingya elder from the border area.
BGB personnel are on red alert in the border area and arrest any Rohingya they meet at border point areas. Illegal migrants are immediately forced back to Burma, the elder added.
