Teknaf, Bangladesh: A registered refugee of Nayapara Camp hopes to save his life with the assistance of the UNHCR and the concerned Bangladeshi authorities who supervise the camp, said a refugee leader who declined to be named.

save-the-lifeThe patient has been suffering from right kidney problems since one year ago, and he is unable walk well because of acute physical pain. However, he is being neglected by doctors at Nayapara Camp.

The victim is identified as schoolteacher Anser Ullah, age 28, son of Abu Shama, MRC #54173, Block-H, and Shed #655/1 of Nayapara Camp in the district of Cox’s Bazaar.

According to the report of Cox’s Bazaar Private Hospital, his right kidney is completely damaged and needs to be removed, said the patient. He went to Ministry of Health (MoH) Medical Team which supervise in the camp for health, led by Dr. Mobin, and showed his medical report. However, the doctor told him that he did not have any problems.

After that, he went to the Nayapara Clinic again and again for five months, but Dr. Mobin did not pay any attention to the patient’s ailments.

However, at last, he was summoned by Doctor Mobin and referred to Cox’s Bazaar Government Hospital through the Ministry of Health (MoH) on March 4.

“The report of the hospital of Cox’s Bazaar also said that his right kidney was damaged due to stones and needs to be removed. However, if Doctor Mobin had referred the patient earlier, the stones could have been removed and the kidney could have been saved.”

Due to the negligence and delayed reference of Dr. Mobin, Anser Ullah’s kidney is beyond repair.

“We refugees want proper medical treatment in the Nayapara Camp from UNHCR and MoH. We don’t want to lose our valuable lives without proper treatment,” said a refugee community member.
