Businessmen who own orange groves in Garayang villages on the Sino-Burma border trade route in Kachin State, northern Burma are disappointed over investing in the orange business this year, a source said.

He continued that earlier oranges from Garayang were one of the best and they could distribute the fruits in the market every year.

The trees dried in Garayang because of environmental reasons, said a Kachin environmentalist. He said, "Many trees around the Garayang village had been cut and the streams had dried up. It could be the reason why the orange trees have dried up because it couldn't absorb the water".

According to a resident in Garayang village, now the Burmese military junta has planted rubber instead of orange trees. Now there are many rubber plantations around the village.
