Schools in Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State in northern Burma have been alerted and told to arrange for security by the Burmese ruling junta which has information that a group has arrived in town to blow up educational institutions, a source said.
The Office of Director of Kachin State Education sent telegraphic letters last week to schools in Myitkyina directing it to arrange for 24-hour security around the schools especially between August 8 and 11, a school teacher in Myitkyina told KNG this morning.
“The letter ordered enhancing security between August 8 and 11 as the dates were important and we had to take responsibilities like telephone duty and guarding the school gate,” said a primary school teacher.
While primary schools were given less priority in terms of security, the government high and middle schools in town were asked to be more careful during those days, she added.
According to a teacher, the schools are also busy because a visit to the town and schools are slated by the Lt-Gen. Ohn Myint, Commander of No. (1) Bureau of Special Operation or Commander of Special Operation for Northern Burma and also former northern commander. But the date of his visit is still not known.
