With incessant heavy rain in Kachin state, residents of the capital Myitkyina are apprehensive of another flood in the township even as the water level of the Irrawaddy River (Mali Hka) keeps rising steadily since Friday evening.

A resident of Shatapru quarter whose house is situated beside the N'Jang Hka (N'Jang stream) which joins the Irrawaddy River told KNG that the N'Jang Hka is flowing in the opposite direction because of the rising Irrawaddy River.

N'Jang Hka bridge, also called Japan bridge, in N'Jang Pa (N'Jang paddy field), which connects Shatapru and Tatkone quarters, is swollen. The N'Jang stream also divides the two quarters.

Some families near the N'Jang stream in Shatapru quarter are preparing to flee from their houses while some are silently watching the situation, a resident ready to flee said.

Meanwhile, the state-run Myawaddy Television announced that the Irrawaddy River will rise and Myitkyina is in danger, a local resident said.

Incessant rain started in Kachin state since early May, residents of Myitkyina said.

Neither junta authorities nor private organizations have warned local people but the people near the Irrawaddy River are wary of the flood, residents added.

In 2004, severe floods in Irrawaddy River hit the capital Myitkyina and left about 20,000 troubles.
