A Kachin youth group conducted workshops on health education yesterday in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in Myitkyina, and Waingmaw (Waimaw) Townships, Kachin State.
It’s important IDPs are informed just how unhealthy it is to only eat packaged food, said Zai Du from the youth group.
Many camp residents are consuming Chinese imported packaged food items and junk food like candy, canned food, instant noodles and powder milk without realizing the negative effects on their health.
One resident who participated in the workshop said he now understands the nutritional value of eating organic vegetables.
“I’m more aware about the need to eat healthy food,” said Zau Hkun from Kyun Pyin Thar IDPs camp in Myitkyina.
The Kachin youth group, which formed in 2009, told the Kachin News Group they have given similar health education workshops in all of the IDPs camp in Myitkyina township, said a member Htoi Awng.
