Joint forces of the Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) and the Burmese Army started moving from Kyainnseikyi town Karen State today to launch a military offensive against the Karen National Union (KNU) in Three Pagoda Pass area (TPP), according to Burmese military sources.

About 80 soldiers of the DKBA battalion No.999 and Burmese Army troops from Brigades Command No.77 based in Pegu (Bago) Division are moving into the area of the KNU Brigade No.6 according to the source in TPP.

The DKBA troops are leading from the front. It is being shored up by regime troops.

However there is no confirmation about the troop movement, said Captain Htet Nay, of KNU Brigade No.6.

"It is difficult to fathom given it is raining heavily. There is no information about the military offensive against us. But we have been hearing about it over the last two weeks," Captain Htet Nay said.

During the end of June, the DKBA battalion No.907, backed by junta troops captured the KNLA battalion No.201 base.

The Bangkok Post had said an estimated 100 Burmese soldiers from the 409th Light Infantry Regiment joined the DKBA at that time.

Although, KNU recaptured the base, the fighting led to over 200 Karen villagers to flee Burma into Thai territory's Pob Phra District, in Tak Province .
