Burmese military junta authorities have cut off power supply to four villages in Thanpyuzayart Township since last week on the orders of Napyidaw.

The Moulmein ministry of electric power started supplying electricity to the We-ka  laung, An-Khae, Hitn-yu and Kaw-lay villages in Thanpyuzayart from January.

An An-Khoe villager said that the authorities cut off supply from the transformer because the ministry of electric power in the state supplied the power to these villages without waiting for permission from Naypyidaw. After this was discovered, local authorities cut off supply.

A Hitn-yu villager said "We have not been getting electricity since last week. I have to pay 1 million kyat to get power."

Each village has around 500 -1000 households and has to spend 100 million Kyat for transmission wires and set up a transformer in each village. One household has to pay between 0.7 to 1 million Kyat for electric meter boxes and other costs.

Power Lining Committee (Me Lin Ye Committee) was founded by the village Peace and Develop Council members and villagers had to bribe the committee for it. Every household which gets electricity has to pay 500 Kyat to the Power Lining Committee as maintenance cost for an electric box.

The supply of electricity is irregular. Power is distributed alternatively about two days a week.

A source close to the committee said that they are arranging to bribe the Moulmein ministry of electric power to resume electricity supply.

Mudon, Ye, and Thanpuyzayart township residents couldn't wait and they have been using private power from the Ko Than Oo & Brothers, the business crony of the Tenasserim based military commander.
