IMNA has learnt that police are still investigating an armed robber who carried out a robbery at Pel-Se-Yoan road, near the main market in Mawlamyine, Mon State at about 4pm on 3rd December.
The police are holding the robber, Aung Htwe Moe, age 40, in custody and are still trying to establish whether he is a member of an armed organisation and if so, which organisation.
A police officer said: “[He said] he came from Myawaddy, we are still investigating to find out what organisation he is with. Currently the head of the police station is investigating the case at Mawlamyine Police Station.
Aung Htwe Moe entered into a house, fired his pistol and demanded money from the house owner before other people arrived and arrested him after a struggle, according to local residents.
One of them said: “I heard a shout of ‘bandit’ and then gunfire. Men and women rushed to the house where they fought with and arrested Aung Htwe Moe who also got injured. They then called the police.
Two accomplices who were waiting for Aung Htwe Moe in a Toyota Corolla car at the end of the road fled and managed to evade capture.
Aung Htwe Moe was found to be in possession of a Chinese made 9mm automatic pistol, ten rounds of ammunition and a Thai issued driving licence. His Burmese identification card shows that he is from Mu-Doon Village in Chaungzon Township, Mon State.
Mawlamyine Police have charged Aung Htwe Moe with robbery under section 394, illegal possession of a firearm under section 19/F and import and export offences under section 8.
