China’s Communist Party invites UNA’s members to visit

The United Nationalities Alliance (UNA) is set to visit China early next month after receiving a formal invitation by  the Communist Party’s, according to Dr. Min Kyi Win, the joint-secretary for the Mon Democratic Party (MDP).

National Congress of China  “We will discuss the armed conflicts in ethnic areas, and also urge China to become more involved in the peace process.. As I know, China plans to make more investment in Burma, and to re-start the Myint Sone Dam Project,” said the joint-secretary Dr. Min Kyi Win, who will be representing the MDP during the trip.

Other UNA representatives that will visit China will include members from MDP, the Zomi National Congress (ZNC), the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) and the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP).

Nai Tin Aung, the vice-chairman of MDP, said that the invitation by the Communist Party shows they are seeking a more direct engagement with ethnic and democratic political parties.

“I don’t know what issues will be discussed during the visit, but as for us, we will mainly discuss the armed conflicts in the ethnic areas. (The) second priority will be to discuss about issues (related) to human right violations,” said the vice-chairman.

In the first week of May, 12 National League for Democracy (NLD) representatives also visited China.

Other parties such as, the All Mon Regions Democracy Party (AMDP), Shan Nationalities Democratic Party (SNDP), Rakhine National Development Party (RNDP) and the National Unity Party (NUP), have already visited China.
