Stepping up its campaign for support for the draft constitution at the referendum nearly half a dozen minister level officials from Naypyidaw are visiting Arakan State to mobilize Arakanese people to cast "yes" votes, according to a report.

The report said that Deputy Home Minister Brigadier General Pone Swe is arriving in the town of Kyauktaw, located on the upper Kaladan River. He is visiting the area after concluding visits to Buthidaung, Maungdaw, and Rathidaung to campaign for the referendum.

From 20 to 21 April, Deputy Foreign Minister U Maung Myint also visited Mrauk U Township to mobilize Arakanese people to cast "yes" votes in the referendum.

On 20 April, General Thein Swe, who is in charge of Arakan State's Union Solidarity Development Association (USDA), visited Pauktaw Township accompanied by Arakan State governor, General Maung Shin.

He also met several members of rural administrative councils in the township at the town hall on 20 April and explained about the referendum and its importance to the future of Burma.

During the trip, General Thein Swe also donated a school and a lot of cash to local residents.

On 21 April, Navy Admiral Soe Thein also visited the Danyawaddy navy base in Kyaukpru to mobilize sailors to cast "yes" votes in the referendum, but there is not information on whether he met local people or not.

It has also been learnt that the Burmese military government has sent many high officials to locations around Burma to mobilise people to vote in support of the draft constitution, as authorities are anxious about losing the referendum.
