San Maung Than — During the national election only one complaint has been officially lodged from recent polling in Arakan State, according to U Thurein Htut, an officer with the Arakan State election sub-commission office. Ramree Township election sub-commission submitted complaint against U Kyaw Shwe, the winning Lower House candidate from Arakan National Party (ANP).
“He has been reported for stamping his seal on the ballot envelopes without permission from commission members during the collection of advanced voters prior to Election Day,” explained U Thurein Htut. U Kyaw Shwe used a seal that he had acquired as an education officer in Bago Region, even though he is no longer employed as a civil servant.
The Ramree Township commission chairman filed this complaint to the Arakan State election commission for them to decide but they advised that the matter be handled by the police.
Other complaints about misconduct during polling in Arakan State have been made but they were only reported to the police and never made it to the commissar’s office.
