San Maung Than — Arakan National Party (ANP) Chairman Dr. Aye Maung blamed his inability to take Marnaung Township during the election due to campaign related problems.
“My defeat was related to weak campaigning; we weren’t able to penetrate the hearts of the people,” he said. Although their rallies were well attended, they had trouble accessing the entire township due to poor roads and communication.
“Marnaung (Township) is the least developed area and divided by the north and south areas. The northern area is more developed, it has asphalt roads but the southern area doesn’t,” he said.
Overall the ANP was victorious despite Aye Maung’s setbacks doing well in other areas of the state.
In Maungdaw Township: U Hla Tun Kyaw received 9,000 votes for Lower House; U Maung Ohn received 5,848 votes in Constituency No 2; U Maung Mae received 3,093 votes for Upper House Constituency 7; and U Kyaw Kyaw Win received 5,519 votes for Upper House Constituency No 8.
