San Maung Than — A signing ceremony for winning candidates that contested in Sittwe Township constituency was held at the Township Election Commission office this afternoon. The event was well attended with township officials, candidates, elders and members of the City Development Council coming out to show their support for the new leaders.
“We tried to release poll results earlier, but there were delays. We needed to be very thorough to avoid making mistakes. We will submit these results to state and union level commissions. International organizations urged us to release results on time so we tried to get them out as soon as possible,” said U Saw Hlaing, chairperson for Sittwe Township Election Commission.
U Wai Sein Aung (ANP); U Maung Thein Khine (ANP); U Aye Thein (ANP); and U Kyaw Zaw Oo (independent candidate), that all won seats in the Upper House, Lower House, State Parliament 1 and 2, respectively, were on hand for the official signing, as well as many other candidates that contested the election.
The only independent candidate that won a seat was U Kyaw Zaw Oo, who ran for State Parliament Constituency No 2. Before the election, he served as ANP central secretary.
Polling results for Sittwe Township were posted at the Township Commission office yesterday evening.
