The Mon State government has allocated Ks 50 million to hold the 71st Mon National Day ceremonies on the first waning day of Tabodwe (February 1).

“The Mon State will provide Ks 50 million in total. The central [ceremony] won’t get everything. We will give two million kyats to each township,” said Dr Min Kyi Win, the Mon State Minister of Environment and Natural Resources.

Aside from Bilin Township, the remaining nine townships will receive two million kyats each for the Mon National Day ceremonies and the central ceremony will receive Ks 32 million, according to the state minister.

The Kayin (Karen) State government has also allocated Ks 10 million for the Mon National Day (Central) ceremony.

Nai Chit Oo, chairman of the Mon National Day (Central) Organizing Committee, said the committee has proposed a total of Ks 78 million budget to hold the central ceremony including seven million kyats for the ceremony preparation sub-committee and over ten million kyats for the entertainment sub-committee.

“We’ve already taken out Ks 20 million allocated by the Mon State government for the central ceremony. We will take out the remaining Ks 30 million within a day or two. We will allocate two million kyats for the township-level. We will only give the budget to the township where official township-level committees have been established,” said Nai Chit Oo.

The 71st Mon National Day central ceremony will be held in Zar Ta Pyin Village under Hpa-an Township, Kayin State.

The Mon State government allocated Ks 15 million for the Mon National Day ceremony last year.
