The Second Mon Political Conference will be convened in the first week of May to obtain approval for the constitution of the Mon national representative party.
During a public conference of the Mon National Party Implementation Group held in Inn Din Village on March 30, Nai Ta La Nyi said: “Arrangements have been made to hold the Second Mon Political Conference in the first week of May.”
The notification letter to the Mon monks and Mon people states that the issue has been decided by the party’s supervisory group and implementation group.
The supervisory group and the implementation group have written the second draft of the party’s constitution and will continue to work on the third draft.
The previous Mon Political Conference set down a three-month time frame to draft the constitution and letters have been sent to Mon political parties to invite them to join the implementation of the Mon national representative party.
The Mon National Party (MNP)’s general secretary Nai Layih Tamarh said the MNP and the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMRDP) are currently discussing the merger so they will only meet with the Mon National Representative Party Implementation Committee after the merger has been completed.
“It will be better to meet after the merger of the two parties has been completed. The merger of the two parties isn’t completed yet so we shouldn’t meet them now,” he said.
Before the First Mon Political Conference was held, the MNP announced on January 7 that it will not be responsible for any effects of the conference’s decision on the entire Mon people.
The 21-member implementation group and 19-member supervisory group were established during the First Mon Political Conference to establish the Mon national representative political party.
The First Mon Political Conference was held at the Sasana 2500 Building in Taung Yoe Tan, Mawlamyine on January 13-14.
