Dawei Man Dies During Military Council Interrogation

A man over 30 years old from Dawei Township, who was arrested by the Military Council, died during interrogation, according to his family.

Ko Kyaw Thura, a 30-year-old, died as a result of torture during questioning.

A relative of the deceased, Ko Kyaw Thura, said, "The body has not been returned yet. The family wants to have it back."

According to a source close to the family, they were informed by the ward administrator on May 20 that he had passed away during the interrogation process.

Ko Kyaw Thura, who resides in Daung Ngu Tangar Ward, Dawei Township, was arrested at his home on the evening of May 15 upon returning from work.

After the arrest, on the night of May 16, Ko Kyaw Thura was taken by Military Council troops in a vehicle and compelled to guide them around the Daung Ngu Tangar Ward. According to residents, a total of 8 individuals, including 5 men and 3 women, were apprehended.

According to some local residents, among those who were detained, two women were arrested as hostages because their husbands could not be located by the authorities.

A relative, aged 35, mentioned that Ko Kyaw Thura was a Muslim, and according to their religious customs, the family desires to have his body back for burial in the ground.

Ko Kyaw Thura, initially employed as a hardware store salesman, transitioned to working in electrical installation and is actively involved in charitable endeavors.

According to residents, out of the 5 men and 3 women arrested from the Daung Ngu Tangar Ward, two men and one woman were granted bail on the morning of May 20. However, the remaining 5 individuals are still in custody.
