Airstrike in Sawlon village in Bawlakhe claims woman’s life- several injured Karenni State

A woman was killed in an airstrike conducted by the Military Council near Sawlon village in Bawlakhe Township, Karenni (Kayah) State with, in a location where they was no ongoing

battle. The aerial attack on Sawlon village on May 17th was at approximately 4:00 am locals said.

The People's Defense Force-Bawlakhe (Bawlakhe-PDF) reported that a 17-year-old young woman tragically lost her life, four elderly men sustained injuries, and two village clinic buildings along with six houses were damaged as a result of a fighter jet's bombing attack. The airstrike resulted in visible damage to the village monastery, the drinking water storage lake, and the unfortunate loss of several domestic animals.

"Out of fear of artillery shells, we sought safety in the monastery. But when a bomb landed right inside nobody stayed. We all took a risk and hurriedly fled from the monastery while the airstrike continued”, a woman who took refuge in the monastery prior to the air raid,” told the Kantarawaddy Times.

Since early May local PDF and joint forces have been carrying out attacks with increasing frequency in several locations where Military Council troops are stationed within Bawlakhe Township. The Karenni Army (KA), Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), and Bawlakhe-PDF launched a joint attack on the Military Council troops, as they were advancing towards Wanmala village in the 12-Mile Hill area of Bawlakhe, resulting in the death of 5 Military Council soldiers and the seizure of military weapons.

On March 23rd there were 5 jet fighter attacks on Wanbala village in Bawlakhe Township, resulting in the injury of 5 timber workers. and the tragic loss of life of 3 villagers. After that bombardment

bombardments conducted by the Military Council in the vicinity of Bawlakhe township, the Bawlakhe-PDF has issued a plea to the local residents, urging them to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves against airstrikes.

In addition to the ongoing conflict in Bawlakhe township, fighting between the Military Council and resistance forces has also been intensifying in the eastern suburbs of Demoso, another township in Karenni State.
