Regime airstrikes kill three civilians in Mindat Township

Three civilians were killed in Burma army airstrikes on Panpa village in Mindat Township of southern Chin state. A four year-old and a 70 year-old were killed on the spot during the airstrikes.

A 17 year-old girl was seriously wounded during the airstrikes, and eventually succumbed to her injuries later that evening.

Regime fighter jets hit Panpa village six times between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on 16 April. In total 17 bombs were dropped on the village. In addition to the three people killed, two men and four women were seriously injured.

Two civilian houses were totally burned down by the airstrikes, and nine other houses were damaged.

The Burma army’s Light Infantry Battalion 274 (LIB 274) is based in Mindat town. Local people report that soldiers from the LIB 274 intentionally attack civilian villages with howitzers and other types of artillery weapons.

On 14 April, the Chinland Defense Force – Mindat (CDF – Mindat) suggested that local people to dig bunkers near their houses in which they could shelter from airstrikes and artillery fire.

The Burma army has carried out airstrikes on multiple civilian villages in Chin State since the beginning of 2023.

Regime fighter jets attacked Khuafo village in Thangtlang Township on 30 March and Webula town in Falam Township on 10 April.

At least 18 people including children were killed during the airstrikes on Webula town.
