3 Women Sentenced to Life Imprisonment by Indaw Township

On April 3, in Indaw Township situated on the Kachin-Sagaing border, the township military Court sentenced three women charged with terrorism to life-imprisonment.

An official from Indaw PDF informed KNG that three residents of Indaw - Daw Thein Hla, a 40-year-old CDM teacher, and vendors Daw Khin Pyae Pyae Tun and Daw Aye Aye - have been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Indaw Township military court on terrorism charges.

“All three of them were sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 50(j) and Section 52(a) by the military court. All three of them are from Indaw Township,” he said.

Following their arrest at home on March 5 of this year, the three women were charged with providing support and communication to PDFs.

Indaw PDF reports that the three women who were sentenced to life imprisonment are currently being held in Katha prison.

In Indaw Township, the Military Council has sentenced five individuals to life imprisonment, which includes Ko Aye Min Tun, sentenced on April 1, and Ko Min Min Oo, sentenced on February 27.

After the military coup in Indaw Township, more than 60 individuals were arrested and most of them continue to be detained without any charges filed against them. They are being held in the Indaw hill-based military outpost and police detention center.

Based on statistics from the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), the military coup in Myanmar resulted in the arrest of 17,336 individuals across the country, with 5,516 of them being sentenced to imprisonment.
