The Kyunhla Township Activists Group has reported that Military Council troops burned down three villages in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Region, within a span of two days.
According to an official from the Kyunhla Township Activists Group, on April 2, Infantry Battalion 137 based in Koetaungboet and Kanbalu 6006 tank unit.
He reported that “They set fire to Nyaninn Village and Innlelgyi Village in the southern part of Kanbalu, as well as Hlyawhpyukone Village in the northern part of Kanbalu. Nyaninn and Hlyawhpyukone were burned on the morning of April 2nd. They came in two military columns. Yesterday, Innlelgyi village was burned down. Innlelgyi and Nyaninn were burned by 6006 tank units,” he said.
The official from the Kyunhla Township Activists Group reported that as a result of the arson, 60 houses in Hlyawhpyukone village and 40 houses in Nyaninn village were burned down. The number of fires in Innlelgyi village is still unconfirmed.
Residents of Kanbalu have reported that there is currently no fighting between the Military Council and the defense forces in the area. However, they claim that the military is burning houses without any apparent reason.
In addition, on March 23, the Military Council burned down more than 30 houses in Nyaungzingyi Village, Htankone Province. They also abducted a 60-year-old monk, and a man with poor mental health was burned to death, according to the Kyunhla Township Activists Group.
