The Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP), Kachin National Congress (KNC), Lisu National Development Party (LNDP), and New Democracy Party (Kachin) have applied for Registration with the Union Election Commission of the Military Council to continue as established political parties.

The Union Election Commission has announced that 13 parties have applied for the right to establish and register as a political party, while 50 parties have applied to continue establishing and registering as political parties, making a total of 63 parties.

The Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP) is a political party that resulted from the merger of three Kachin parties, while the Kachin National Congress (KNC) is a political party that represents the Kachin nation as a whole.

In addition, the New Democracy Party (Kachin) is the backing party of Kachin Special Region 1 Chairman U Za Khone Taint Yein, and the Lisu National Development Party (LNDP) is a party composed of the Lisu majority.

We attempted to contact the relevant political parties to gather more information about their registration, but we were only able to reach the Lisu National Development Party (LNDP) .

Twelve political parties have applied for the right to campaign throughout the Union, while 51 parties have applied for the right to campaign only within a specific region or state. All these parties have applied for registration or the right to continue operating in accordance with the laws and regulations. The Union Election Commission is currently verifying their establishment and registration.

The 40 political parties that did not apply within the specified period were automatically canceled as political parties, according to the announcement No. (5/2023) of the Union Election Commission, those parties were canceled from being registered as political parties and the parties were dissolved, the Union Election Commission officially announced.

According to Section 3 of the Political Parties Registration Law, individuals who wish to establish a political party and those who wish to register a political party must submit an application to the Union Election Commission.

The Military Council is attempting to hold elections following the military coup, but there is significant opposition to this among the majority of the population. The NUG and many international governments have condemned this as a fake election.
