Military council chairman asks Sittwe University teachers-students to avoid politics

Chairman of the military council senior general Min Aung Hlaing commented recently that those involved in the education sector, specifically the teachers and students, should avoid engaging in political activities.

The top military leader, while attending a meeting with teachers and officials of Sittwe University at the graduation hall on 30 March along with representatives from the education ministry, advised them to keepaway from politics.

"The teachers and students were asked not to participate in political activities. The opening of doctoral courses, expansion of new dormitories, need for educated human resources etc were also discussed  in the meeting,” said a lecturer of Sittwe University.

Min Aung Hlaing opined that the teachers and students should engage in educational works rather than than joining in politics.

A leader of Rakhine State student’s union said that they are interested in the state of affairs across the country.

He alleged that those worked during the military council’s tenure are corrupt. During the NLD's tenure, the government really tried to develop educational institutions.

The military council team visited Sittwe to present a new umbrella crown to Lawka Nanda pagoda there. The team also visited other places including Sittwe Kandawgyi lake and Point resort.
