A regime jet- fighter bombed Nga Paukwa village in Shwegu Township, Kachin State resulting in the deaths of two innocent people according to locals
According to a woman from Shwegu who spoke to KNG, on February 27, civilians who were mining for gold near Thinbawinn village on the side of the Ayeyarwaddy river, east of Nga Paukwa village, were targeted in an attack that resulted in two men being killed by a bomb on the spot.
“One jet fighter came and dropped a bomb directly in front of Nga Paukwa village. In Thinbawinn, they targeted the people who worked there as gold miners. There was no fighting and only gold miners around there. The miners had no machines and only got 1 grain or 2 grains of gold a day. There they dropped a bomb and 2 of them were killed on the spot," she said.
As a result of the military's bombardment, 2 civilians were killed and many people were injured and receiving medical treatment.
According to another resident, the Military Council's attack on an area with civilians, may have been in response to a complaint made by businessmen who are cooperating with the Military Council.
"What I'm hearing now is that the people who were using rafts to dig were paying money to the military for permission to do so. At that time, there were frequent protests by local residents and priests. They complained to the military, because they were not allowed to do it freely. I heard that they held a meeting in Shwegu today, and it's possible that the military attacked them after that meeting," he said.
One of the two civilians who were killed by the Military Council's bomb attack was a resident of Moesit village, and the other was from Paukkone village. The KNG news agency is currently investigating the details of the two deceased, and compiling a list of the injured.
Yaelelkyun and Nga Paukwa, located near Moesit village in Shwegu township, have been the sites of regular protests by local residents since the military coup, due to large-scale gold mining with rafts that has resulted in damage to the rivers and pagodas in Yaelelkyun.
