While entire country held anti-coup ‘silent strike’ a few Junta-supporters rallied on Yangon roads

On the second anniversary of the military coup, the entire country of Myanmar went on a silent strike to express their opposition to the military dictatorship.

At that time a few pro-Junta demonstrators marched on the roads of Yangon to show their support to the coup Military Council, accompanied by security forces.

The organizers who led the demonstration rally in support of the coup in Yangon were led by Michael Kyaw Myint, Min Thar Gyi (aka) Aung San Oo and Daw Moe Moe Khaing, according to the invitation letter to attend the demonstration.

Supporters of the Military Council and those opposed to the silent strike joined forces to hold a demonstration near the bus stop in front of Maha Bandula Park (near the City Hall) in downtown Yangon.

The rally started in front of Thamada Cinema and was led by about 10 monks carrying national flags. Behind them were some people carrying national flags, military flags and portraits of Junta chief Min Aung Hlaing as they headed towards Maha Bandula Park.

Soldiers, policemen and traffic police were seen providing security with a large force along the route of their march.

The pro-Junta demonstrators also carried signs reading “ We welcome the 2-year rule of the State Administration Council (the Military Council)and  We support the National Defense and Security Council (NDSC)” .

In addition, they chanted that down with NUG , the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the People’s Defense Forces (PDF).

Just a small number of pro-Junta demonstrators took to the roads and made noises on February 1st, the second anniversary of the coup, while the whole country was united in a silent strike against the Military Council.

The revolutionary forces appealed to the public to protest by not going out of their homes, and staying silent as much as they could between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, in order to show the entire people’s unanimous determination and commitment to oppose the sham election planned by the Military Council.

The resistance movement expressed their special thanks to the people of the whole country who participated in the silent strike.

A resistance fighter said, “We sincerely thank not only the people who participated in the silent strike, but also those who did not participate due to various reasons yet supported and helped in any way they could. With the unity of the people, the revolution will soon realized.”
