The latest explosion occured on a section of rail track between Hsarhmaw and Htobu stations in Kachin State, said the state-run newspaper New Light of Myanmar.

The latest KIA bombing campaign has focused on non-military targets such as railroads and bridges. The government has told people in Myitkyina, the capital, to stay indoors after 6 p.m. The Chinese government has warned its nationals to use caution if traveling to the state.

On April 29, a mine explosion occurred on an express passenger train on the Mandalay-Myitkyina rail route at a location near Moenyin, injuring two people. Eight coaches of the express train were derailed near Moenyin Township.

On May 1, mine destroyed a section of rail tracks and nine sleepers on the Myikyina-Mandalay railroad route in the state.
Recently, the KIA had also damaged three bridges in the state.

The three bridges include Dunban Bridge on the Myitgyina-Chepwe road, a concrete bridge on the Waingmaw -Hsadon-Kanpaikti road and a bailey bridge near Warazut village on the Myitgyina-Tanaing road.

The series of attacks come as peace talks between the government and the KIA have broken down. Although three rounds of talks have been held in China's border town of Ruili, the fighting has intensified.
