Party leader U Myo Kyaw said that the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) does not recognize the sham election that will be staged by the coup leader to retain his grip on power.
The party’s general secretary U Myo Kyaw said that the Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) party will not participate in the election in any way, either according to the party’s structure or because the election is being implemented to revive the dictatorship.
“ The Arakan League for Democracy’s party constitution is written to make efforts to prevent the restoration of any tyranny in Myanmar, including a one-party tyranny. At present the military is in power in Myanmar. We see that they are implementing measures to revive the tyranny. Therefore,ALD will not participate in any way. We would like to say first of all , we will not recognize the election,” he said.
U Myo Kyaw said, “ It has become a battlefield in many places where there has never been fighting in our recent history. For this reason, if the election is held by these people to remain in power, we must strongly oppose it. We must prevent it from happening.”
The military seized power on February 1, 2021, claiming that there had been vote fraud in the last 2020 election. After that the junta chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has said that another election will be held in 2023, and power will be transferred to the party that wins the election.
However, U Myo Kyaw criticized that the election to be held by the current Military Council is a sham election to continue to their hold on power of the military leader.
“ The election that will be held by the Military Council is just the implementation of their desire to gain power in order to continue to hold on power . In other words, this election is a sham election,” he said.
He added that” the Military Council has accused the 2020 election of vote fraud, but it is just an excuse to want a coup, and until now, no one, including the international community, has any faith in the military group’s allegations.”
He also said that in this year’s Military Council elections, due to the current Myanmar political difficulties and problems, the position of the people and political parties who will participate in the elections will be greatly reduced, and no real transparency and impartiality can be established.
It is reported that the election will be held in August of this year, and population censuses for the election are being collected throughout Myanmar since January 9.
There are 3 well-known parties in Rakhine, and Dr. Aye Maung said that the Arakan Front Party (AFP) will contest the upcoming election under the political party registration law, while the Arakan National Party (ANP) has not yet announced anything.
The United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has stated that the holding of local elections in Rakhine depends not only on the political situation at the time, but also on the wishes of the entire Myanmar people, and that throughout the history of the elections held in Rakhine state, nothing has been able to contribute to the development of the lives of the people of Rakhine.
