Leaders of Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), the Myanmar military government backed political party, offered bribes to about 100 local residents in Thandwe locality of Rakhine State asking them to protest against the United Nations Security Council's resolution on Myanmar.
A rally was also organized by some USDP leaders and members on 3 January, where the participants assembled in front of number 8 ward of Thandwe township stadium area at about 1 pm.
A Thandwe resident informed that the rally was organised against the UNSC decision following the direction of USDP’s top leaders. The participants were offered food and gift items.
“I saw many bottles of drinking water on the table. I know, they also paid bribes (money) to the people to join in the rally,” he added.
Mentionable is that the UNSC on 21 December last called on the military council of Myanmar to stop violence in the country. It also asked the military generals to release Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other political prisoners.
Soon after the development, some supporters of the military council organised protest demonstrations against the UNSC decision in various cities including Mandalay and Yangon.
Demonstrators in the Thandwe rally shouted slogans against the UNSC resolution and they also displayed banners and posters. Slogans also chanted to stop the terrorists murdering monks and civil servants.
The posters read various lines like We Are Against Unilateral Decision of UNSC, No Need of Foreign Intervention, Don't Want NUG, CRPH, PDF, Myanmar Can Solve Its Issues, Stop Terrorists, Save Innocent People, etc.
Earlier on 28 December, the military council supporters protested in front of the American and British embassies in Yangon. They also did the same in Mandalay on 30 December last.
