Seven members of a family died after a house fire broke out in N’Gan village of Naung Chainvillage tract in Waingmaw township, Kachin state on the night of December 1.
Village administrative officials told KNG that a short circuit caused a fire in a house with an attic around 11:00 PM at night, killing six children and an elderly woman.
“The fire started at the ground floor due to a short circuit. The woman went downstairs to check because of the burning smell, but was trapped in the fire. There were two gallons of gasoline and diesel in the basement, which fueled the spread of fire. The woman could not go back upstairs and the children in the attic could not come down. The sisters and their grandmother all died”, an official said.
The seven deceased are Daw N’Gan Kha (70), Ma Ran Jar Sai Nan (11), Ma Ran Bauk Jar (9), MaRan Ywe Sai (7), Ma Ran Htu Shan (6), Ma Ran Mon Aung (4). and Ma Ran Rein Kyein (2).
The fire broke out at U Maran Zaw Lai’ s house at the upper part of N’Gan village. The fire started when the father was working on the farm, and only the mother survived, but the children and grandmother were killed in the tragedy.
All the belongings including the house have been lost due to the fire, and the bereaved family members need urgent help, locals said.
