An old man in poor health in Chin State -sentenced to 3 years in prison for sedition

A township court Council sentenced a nearly 70-year-old elderly man in poor health from Abaothar Village in Paletwa Township of Chin State, to 3 years in prison under Section 505(A) of sedition.

68-year-old U Chit San already had health problems and suffered injuries after. being arrested and tortured by the Military Council, and now his health is deteriorating. He is also suffers from mental health problems, a family member said

“He has been in bad health since before he was arrested. He has two or three diseases already. He also has a hernia so he can never eat a full meal. Hence his simmune system is frail.”

The relative added that “ We made sure to add the medicine he used to take. He is also ing a mental breakdown because of fear.He was muttering that he would be arrested again, if he was released from jail. He also has a bad ear, so he did not hear the verdict from the judge. He found out that he was going to jail only when his family members told him” family member said

  • An individual like U Chit San, who is old and in poor health, does not have the strength to commit sedition. Therefore, they want him to be released as soon as possible, his family members added
  • Soldiers from the 289th Infantry Division of the Military Council came to Abaotha Village and arrested U Chit San, U Aine Hla and the village administrative officer on May 26
  • U Chit San is currently detained at the Paletwa Police Station and has not yet been sent to the Sittwe Prison due to travel delays.

Abaothar villagers said that U Chit San makes a living from hillside farming and uses a staff for support every time he walks because of his weak knees.
