Two explosions near Friendship Bridges to Thailand in Myawaddy, Karen State

Two enormous bomb blasts happened near to the Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridges No. 1 and No. 2 in Myawaddy Township, Karen State, at around 7:00 p.m. on 15 October.

According to local residents, there were two blasts just a few minutes apart from each other.

A resident of Myawaddy Township said: “Bombs detonated in two places with massive force. The noise was loud and powerful and the ground also shook. I haven’t heard about casualty [numbers] yet.”

Fire engines, ambulances and junta soldiers went to the scenes of the explosions and started carrying out inspections in the areas of the explosions and throughout Myawaddy Township, according to locals.

Mizzima is still looking into the incident and the damage caused by the bomb blasts.

Previously, on 13 April 2021 the Myanmar Friendship Bridge No. 1 in Myawaddy was bombed. There have been almost 20 explosions in Myawaddy since the coup.
