At least 20 people in Naungmi, a village located on Ledo Road in Hukawng Valley, Kachin State suffered seasonal flu and needed medical assistance, the residents said.
There is a rural clinic in the village, but shortage of medicine occurred sometimes, hence patients in severe conditions had to go to Myitkyina, about 70 miles away, for necessary treatments.
Not only adults but also children were among those who were sick and some of them faced financial difficulties to buy medicine, so they would like to ask for help, a resident of Naungmi village told Myitkyina News Journal.
“Both the children and adults were suffering from seasonal flu. They had no choice but to treat at home with traditional medicine. It would be great if there was a distribution of medicine for flu” the local said.
There is a health worker at the village's rural clinic, as well as government-certified nurses used to come and treat the villagers.
Another local said a person close to him fell ill and did not recover even after taking medicine and decided to go to Myitkyina for proper treatments.
In the past, some external organizations came and distributed medicine in Naungmi village, but it had been 2 months since their last arrival. So that residents were asking for help for the people who were in difficult financial circumstances.
Naungmi is a village with around 1000 households.
