Since early this year, the NLD said it has “sold” more than 500,000 party application forms at a token price of about US$ 8 cents each. But only about 50,000, or 10 per cent, have been returned to party headquarters in Rangoon.

As a result, it has ordered all offices across the country to speed up the distribution of membership applications, NLD spokesman Ohn Kyaing told Mizzima.
 
In the constituencies where by-elections will be held, NLD offices have focused mainly on campaigning, he said, and “other townships have not acted quickly” in distributing and returning the applications. Since January 9, the NLD said it has sent out about one million party application forms to its branch offices in states and regions.

On March 8, the NLD will hold a meeting for its 48 electoral candidates and electoral campaign managers at Rangoon headquarters, Ohn Kyaing said. He said Aung San Suu Kyi’s campaign trip to Kachin State last week was her most successful campaign trip so far.
 
“We were very satisfied,” he said. “Although her campaign trips to Dawei (Tavoy), Myaungmya and Pathein were all successful, the Kachin trip was the most successful.”
