Maungdaw, Arakan State: A Rohingya disappeared after Burma's border security force took him into custody for being in possession of anti-referendum papers written in Burmese while he was crossing the Bangladesh-Burma border on May 9, said a relative of the victim on condition of anonymity.
The person has been identified as Dallia (27), son of Abdul Mazid, from Tha Yai Gone Tan (Konapara) in Maungdaw Township . He was arrested by Pa Nyaung Pin Gyi (Daung Khali) Burma ’s border security force, or Nasaka camp in Maungdaw Township .
The victim crossed the Burma-Bangladesh border for personal reasons and after he finished his work in Bangladesh , he returned to Maungdaw crossing the Naff River . While he was in Bangladesh , he met a man named Hashim Ullah who is a former native of Tha Yai Gone Tan village, but at present is living in Shapuri Dip in Bangladesh .
Hashim Ullah sent some papers written in Burmese to Abul Kalam, the present Village Peace and Development Council (VPDC) Chairman of Zaw Ma Tat (Lamba Ghona) in Maungdaw Township through Dallia.
Following his arrest by the Nasaka, there is no information about the victim's whereabouts. But, regarding interrogations at the camp, the information has been reached to the victim’s relatives through Nasaka aides, said another relative.
His father said, "I don't know whether my son is dead or alive."
