In Mon State, departmental staff who have not yet graduated, and children of civil servants, who passed matriculation examinations, are being forced to attend universities reopened by the military council, according to sources familiar with the case.
However, less than 10% of the total number of students enrolled in universities to be opened by the regime.
The military council had given instructions through the head of the relevant departments that the children of civil servants and the staff who have not yet graduated from the universities were mandated to enroll in the schools, said a family member of a civil servant told Than Lwin Times.
There are more than 1,000 first-year students who have enrolled in Mawlamyine University. Most of the students enrolled were departmental staff and offspring from families who supported the military council.
Last year, the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that it would not recognize anyone attending universities run by junta.
